I am writing this blog entry as fast as I can type because I am so impressed by the company Zappos.com. I'm so darned impressed because my first experience with the company was a WOW experience. It was a WOW experience because I heard of the company through a great little magazine that's tough to find called 'Networking Times.' Through the article it explained how Zappos was different and how they want to give things like a 'WOW' experience to it's customers.
The next thing I know, I'm trying to learn anything and everything about the company and I stumbled upon a give away whereby Tony was giving away a free advance copy of his new book to bloggers. You had to provide the website and ensure that it was active and you could have a chance at getting one. I nearly jumped out of my chair at the chance and submitted my blog.
Literally, the next day I came home from work and there was a package waiting for me from UPS. I wasn't sure what it was and then I opened it up and there were two copies of Delivering Happiness!!! The book sure lived up to its title as I was extraordinarily happy. Then, the next thought that came into my mind is I want to tell everyone I know about this experience; I want to blog about it, tweet it, update my status of it on Linkedin and Facebook.
The next thought I have is I am a loyal and devoted fan of Zappos.com. My next shoe purchase is going to be from Zappos.com and the next other item that I want to buy - if it can be bought on Zappos.com, I will be buying it from Zappos.com.
I'm going to do this because they gave something to me that was more than just a book, it was a surprise, something that I was not expecting. The next reason I'm going to do this is because this is more than any other company has given me and I have bought a lot of stuff from other stores in my life. Third, is because I trust that they will deliver!
So, what does this mean to everyone else out there? Well - for the first time in my life I feel like I'm amidst a revolution. A revolution whereby the gold standard of business just won't cut it anyomore. This is the new 'hyper' standard of business. A business model that engages customers, makes them feel special, reaches other customers through word of mouth faster than advertising, and delivers a WOW experience!!!
Everyone out there - wake up because whatever you thought your business model was, throw it out the window, or watch you lose business to companies like Zappos.com!
